Add page numbers to a PDF

Merged documents lose their numbering, and scanned reports often never had any. This tool adds a clean number to the bottom centre of every page.

You control the starting number and the wording around it, so you can produce plain numbers, "Page 3 of 40", or any other phrasing that suits the document.

How to Page Numbers

  1. Select the PDF you want to number.
  2. Set the starting number and the footer format. Use {n} for the current page and {total} for the page count.
  3. Press "Add page numbers" to download the numbered document.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get plain numbers with no words?

Set the format to just "{n}". The placeholders are replaced with the page number and page count wherever you put them.

Can I start numbering at something other than 1?

Yes. Set the start number, which is useful when a document continues from an earlier volume, or when a cover page should not count.

Where do the numbers appear?

Centred in the footer, a short distance up from the bottom edge of each page.

Can I skip the first page?

Not directly. A common workaround is to split off the cover, number the rest starting from 2, then merge the cover back on.
