Remove a password from a PDF

Once a document has been shared with you and you have its password, typing that password every single time gets old fast. This tool produces a copy that opens without one.

To be direct about the limit: you need the current password. This removes a password you know, it does not break one you do not. There is no cracking here, and that is deliberate — a tool that opened other people's protected documents would be a tool for doing harm.

Frequently asked questions

Can this open a PDF whose password I do not know?

No. You must supply the correct password. The tool removes known protection; it does not attempt to break unknown protection.

Is the original file changed?

No. A new unlocked copy is downloaded and your original stays exactly as it was.

Why does it say the password did not open the PDF?

The password is incorrect, or the document uses an encryption scheme this tool cannot read. Check for typos and capital letters first.

Is my password sent anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser, so the password and the document both stay on your device.
