Convert PDF text to an Excel workbook

This tool extracts every line of text from your PDF and writes it into a spreadsheet, one row per line, tagged with its page and line number.

To be clear about what that means: it is a structured text export rather than true table recognition. It will not automatically split a printed table into neat columns. What it gives you is every line of the document in a spreadsheet where you can sort, filter, search, and use text-to-columns to finish the job — usually much faster than retyping.

How to PDF to Excel

  1. Select the PDF containing the data you need.
  2. Press "Create Excel file" and wait for the text extraction to finish.
  3. Open the XLSX and use sorting, filtering, or text-to-columns to shape the data.

Frequently asked questions

Will my table come out in proper columns?

Not automatically. Each line of the PDF becomes one row of text. Excel's text-to-columns feature will usually split it the rest of the way in a few clicks.

What columns does the output have?

Three: the page number, the line number within that page, and the line text itself. The first two make it easy to trace anything back to the original.

It found no text. Why?

The PDF is a scan with no text layer. Run the OCR tool over it first to convert the images into readable text.

What if Excel is not available?

If the spreadsheet engine cannot load, the tool falls back to a CSV file, which opens in any spreadsheet application.
